EAGE Near Surface Geophysics Conference

The EAGE Near Surface Geophysics Conference will be taking place in Trinity College from the 7th  – 9th September. There are over 150 oral presentations and 30 posters over the three days, including 15 from Ireland. An attendance of around 250 is expected from over 30 countries. The conference is co-hosted by the Geophysical Association of Ireland (GAI)and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE). It will be opened by Minister of State, Conor Lenihan,  on Monday the 7th.   There is  also an accompanying trade exhibition, field demonstrations, workshop and field trips.

The range of topics is wide and there should be a number of talks of interest to members of the IGI. Keynote presentations will be given by the GSI and GSNI on their respective offshore and airborne geophysical surveys.  A particular effort has been made to group talks of geotechnical interest and hydrogeological interest together and these will take place on Tuesday the 8th and Wednesday the 9th respectively. In addition our keynote speaker on Tuesday is Dr Kenneth Stokoe from the University of Austin, Texas, who is recognized as one of the pioneers of the application of surface wave seismics in geotechnical investigations. Details of the various talks and posters can be viewed at http://www.eage.org/events/index.php?eventid=110&Opendivs=s3.  A pdf copy of the second announcement is located here.

The conference is a unique opportunity to view the latest developments in near surface geophysics.
