53rd IGRM 2010

53rd IGRM 2010  - Ulster Museum  - 19th-21st February 2010

The 53rd Irish Geological Research Meeting for 2010 will be held in the newly refurbished Ulster Museum, Belfast, over the weekend of the 19th-21st February. The format will be similar to recent years, with a Friday evening guest speaker followed by the general sessions over the following two days, finishing by 3.30 on Sunday so as to allow those from the farther reaches to catch the 4p.m. train to Dublin in time for connecting trains to Cork and Galway. Registration, as always, is free. Please register as soon as you can so that we can get an idea of numbers.

Potential participants are invited to start thinking about an abstract (200 words maximum), which should be submitted by 22nd January, specifying talk or poster. If the number of talks offered exceeds the number of slots available, then preference will be given to new speakers and/or significantly new research. Talks and posters should have an Irish connection, i.e. on a topic relevant to Ireland or carried out within an Irish organisation. Speakers will be allocated 15 minutes maximum.

Further details of train times, venue location, and local accommodation will be circulated shortly.

On the Friday afternoon there will be an opportunity to visit the 3-D Visualisation Suite at GSNI, just a few minutes walk from the Ulster Museum. There will be three ~20 minute sessions, at 3.15, 4.15 and 5.15. Anyone wishing to avail of this opportunity should notify Alex Donald at GSNI (e-mail alex.donald@detini.gov.uk) specifying the session they wish to attend. If a session is oversubscribed, preference will be given to those who have travelled furthest.

It is planned to have a conference dinner on the Saturday evening in the new Girona Restaurant in the Ulster Museum, cost no more than £20/€20. If you would like to come to the dinner then let the organisers know when you register.

Those wishing to register please contact Michael Simms at mj.simms@virgin.net (If you do not receive a response within a few days then the spam filter may have targeted you (Michael), so resend the e-mail).

Would those submitting abstracts please do so in the style of the template below. Try to keep the main body of the abstract below 200 words.
