Essential Requirements:

Our client is an Australian-based company focused on the exploration and development of the 100%-owned Wa Gold Project in northwest Ghana, West Africa.The Wa Gold Project contains a JORC compliant Indicated and Inferred resource of 1.2 million ounces of gold - including 516,000oz at the Kunche deposit, 350,100 ounces at the Julie deposit and 212,000oz at Bepkong.The company is on target to become a West African gold producer in 2013, and is now in the final stages of drawing together the key components of the Feasibility Study on the Wa Gold Project.
Role Description
Lead the exploration team, to implement and manage all exploration programs, on site.
Organizational StructurePosition reports directly to the GM Geology.Subordinates include the entire exploration team based in Ghana, including non-technical support staff.

Key Responsibilities
BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT:  Monitor competitor activity in Ghana, and be constantly on the look-out for new business development opportunities.  Conduct due diligence studies of target companies and/or projects, as may be required from time to time.
EXPLORATION: Assist with the design of all company exploration programmes, and implement and manage those programmes approved by the Board. Liaise with contractors, as necessary.  Ensure that all technical work is completed to standards that comply with industry best practice.  Regularly report progress and results to senior management, both informally and formally (via written reports).
PERSONNEL: Monitor and manage the performance of all staff, and be a mentor as may be necessary from time to time.  Arrange training and staff development opportunities, to ensure that all staff members remain motivated and are able to continually improve their skills base.
DATA MANAGEMENT:  Ensure that all exploration data are archived safely and remain easily available for analysis and interpretation. 
ADMIN & FINANCE: Manage all aspects of the exploration business, to comply with local laws and corporate policies and procedures (includes all tenement management, and negotiation with local land owners).  Monitor and manage exploration expenditure, on a monthly basis, and ensure compliance with approved budgets.
SAFETY:  Lead by example to promote safety awareness and compliance with all safety-related policies and procedures.  Investigate any incidents, to ensure that lessons learned are captured and circulated to all relevant parties.  
Qualifications & Experience Required:  A degree in geology (or equivalent), with a minimum of ten years experience in the mineral exploration business - at least two of which should be at a managerial level.
A strong technical background - ideally with some experience of gold exploration, and a “hands-on” attitude towards fieldwork.·         A previous role in Africa is preferred, though is not essential if the incumbent has experience in another part of the developing world.
Package Details:  The role is site-based, in Ghana, with a 6:1 FIFO roster as well as with business class airfares to and from home base.  
A salary of $AUD200k (+/-) is being offered, based on relevant experience. A performance-based bonus scheme is also included.
